Coastal Serenity

Coastal homes are shaped, above all else, by light and light on the coast is never generic.

It changes with the latitude, the season, the angle of the water. A palette that works in the south of France will not behave the same way on the Portuguese Atlantic coast. The materials, the openings, the relationship between inside and outside — all of it must respond to the specific quality of light in that particular place.

The conditions that come with living beside water are not inconveniences to design around. Salt air, shifting seasons, the ease of movement between indoors and out — these are the permanent facts of coastal life. A home that acknowledges them honestly will always feel more settled than one that simply looks the part in summer.

What we design for, in this world, is a particular quality of ease. Spaces that feel unhurried. Rooms that hold light rather than resist it. Interiors that open to the landscape without losing their sense of being somewhere considered.
